TC on Standards

Welcome to the IEEE IES Technical Committee on Standards (standards-tc) website!

The IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) coordinates its standards activities through the Technical Committee on Standards, which also acts as the IES Standards Committee (IES/IES), the IEEE SA Standards Committee of the Society. Its tasks are to:

  • Recommend standards of engineering practice to be followed in the fields of interest of the IES (IES Bylaw 9.4.1)
  • Coordinate and facilitate standards across the technical activities of the IES
  • Sponsor the standards Working Groups of the IES and assist the IES Technical Committees that generate and develop standards in their fields of interest, for processing by the IEEE SA in accordance with IEEE policies (IES Bylaw 9.2.3)
  • Monitor and report to the AdCom on standards in the fields of interest of the IES that are proposed or established by other organizations (IES Bylaw 9.4.1)

The fields of interest covered by the IEEE IES Technical Committees address the latest developments in intelligent and computer control systems, robotics, factory communications and automation, flexible manufacturing, data acquisition and signal processing, vision systems, smart grids, edge computing, industrial IoT and power electronics. The Society continually updates its program of technical activities to meet the needs of modern industry.

Highlights:

  • 15 published IEEE standards sponsored or co-sponsored by the IES, including the IEEE 2805 edge computing series, IEEE 1451.1.6 (MQTT for smart transducers), IEEE 2992 (smart agriculture data) and IEEE 2023 (digital transformation) – see Completed Standards.
  • 15 active Working Groups, on LPWAN smart transducer interfaces (IEEE P1451.5.5/.5.6/.5.10), cloud-edge industrial automation (IEEE P2805.4/.5/.6), PV inverter fault detection (IEEE P3739/3740/3741), fuel cells, composite power equipment, logistics equipment and UAV inspection – see On-going Activities.
  • The yearly INTEROP Standards and Interoperability Plugfest at IECON, with hands-on labs and live demonstrations.
